Brandishing a baseball bat and a steak knife were among the charges put to Grantham area defendants in court

Two Grantham men were punished by magistrates for possessing weapons in public.

Defendants brought before Lincolnshire magistrates recently include:

Viktoras Stepanovas, 63, of London Road, Grantham: admits stealing a mobile phone in the Isaac Newton Shopping Centre, Grantham, on January 17; being drunk and disorderly in a public place in London Road, Grantham, on April 7; and possessing a steak knife in London Road, Grantham, on April 7. He was fined £120 and sentenced to three months in prison suspended for six months. No order for costs was made but a £154 surcharge was ordered.

Julian Brookes, 26, of Cambridge Street, Grantham: admits possessing a metal baseball bat in The Paddock, off St Catherine's Road, Grantham, on April 23. He was sentenced to 21 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 surcharge.

Julie Kavanagh, 51, of Avenue Road, Grantham: admits stealing toiletries worth £34.65 from Boyes in Grantham, on April 24. She was ordered to pay £43 costs and a £26 surcharge.

Luke Kershaw, 19, of Leys Close, Grantham: admits driving a Ford Focus on Sankt Augustin Way, Grantham, on December 24 last year with 32 micrograms of class A drug cocaine per litre of blood. He also admitted having 547 micrograms of controlled drug benzoylecgonine per litre of blood. Kershaw was ordered to pay £85 costs, an £80 surcharge and a £200 fine. He was banned from driving for 12 months.

Martin Taylor, 42, of Thames Road, Grantham: admits stealing four bottles of Smirnoff vodka worth £90 from Sainsbury's on May 22. He was ordered to pay £90 in compensation.

Tyronne Bolam, 47, of Oxford Street, Grantham: admits failing to stop as the driver of a Volvo vehicle involved in a road accident in Harlaxton Road, Grantham, on September 30, 2022, whereby personal injury was caused to other persons. He also admitted failing to report the accident and driving without due care and attention. He was ordered to pay £110 costs and a £114 surcharge, made the subject of a community order including 140 hours of unpaid work and banned from driving for 12 months.

Victoria Wells, 33, of Thames Road, Grantham: admits stealing two one-litre bottles of vodka worth £22.50 from Morrisons, Grantham, on February 27; stealing meat worth £158 from Sainsbury's in Grantham on February 21; stealing meat worth £114 from Sainsbury's on May 24; and stealing three tubs of protein powder from Holland and Barrett in Grantham on April 20. She was made the subject of a community order including a six-month drug rehabilitation programme and told to pay £272 in compensation.

Jeremy Jackson, 56, of Walsingham Drive, Corby Glen: admits driving a BMW in Mill Drove, Bourne, on May 5 with 113 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £546 surcharge and banned from driving for 28 months. He was also told to pay a £1,365 fine.

Sam Desmond, 21, of Stuart Street, Grantham: admits three counts of assault by beating of a police officer in Grantham on May 6. Desmond was made the subject of a community order including 60 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
