Trentodoc producer Ferrari Trento is auctioning off a rare jeroboam signed by Formula 1 stars to raise funds for those affected by the recent flooding in Emilia-Romagna.
The floods in Northern Italy have, at the time of writing, claimed an estimated 15 victims, left tens of thousands homeless, and caused in excess of €1 billion in damage. db also spoke with several wine producers from the sub-region of Romagna, which has been particularly badly affected, and heard about how the extreme weather has caused difficulties in the vineyard.
The famous Imola racetrack also flooded, leading to the cancellation of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. In Ferrari Trento's capacity as the Official Sparkling Wine of F1, a deal which was extended last year to 2025, the company will be auctioning off the bottle that should have been popped open on the podium.
The jeroboam bottle, adorned with a graphic of the Imola circuit, has been signed by all the drivers of the 2023 FIA F1 World Championship, including Lewis Hamilton (pictured). It is up for auction on F1 Authentics until 6 June, and all proceeds are to be donated to the Emilia-Romagna Territorial Security and Civil Protection Agency, which have both been providing emergency relief for those affected by the disaster.
Ferrari Trento president and CEO Matteo Lunelli said: "As Ferrari Trento we are happy to launch a solidarity initiative together with Formula 1® and with the support of all the drivers in support of the areas affected by the flood. The symbols of the victory of the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna 2023 Grand Prix, which was not held, can thus become signs of the rebirth of this wonderful territory, which has been hit hard but is proving capable of reacting with courage and determination."
Ferrari Trento also recently put 18 bottles up for auction to raise money for Race Against Dementia.
