Sep 11, 2023Taunton: Celebrate Eggs Benedict Day at Boondocks, Mimi's, Milk Bottle
Let's make one thing clear, to begin with:
Eggs Benedict didn't get its name from Benedict Arnold.
Disappointing, we know, but what can you do?
There are actually conflicting stories as to the origins of eggs Benedict, involving storied New York City establishments like Delmonico's and the Waldorf Hotel.
Regardless of its murky origins, eggs Benedict is a big hit with the breakfast crowd.
So much so, that it gets its own national day.
Sunday, April 16 is National Eggs Benedict Day.
To celebrate, we put together a list of five restaurants from around the Taunton area that are putting their own spin on those Bennys:
371 Weir St.
Hours: Monday to Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Bet on these Bennys: Try Brando's Eggs Benny. Yes, Marlon Brando. They’ve got a bunch of different options to switch up your eggs Benedict, including Portuguese options like linguiça or caçoila. All eggs Benedict come with two poached eggs on an English muffin, topped with Hollandaise sauce, and served with home fries or baked beans.
18 N. Main St.
Hours: Thursday and Friday, from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Closed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Bet on these Bennys: They’re not eggs Benedict, they’re eggs Boondocks! Two poached eggs and Canadian bacon or bacon, on a toasted English muffin, topped with Hollandaise and served with home fries.

19 Taunton Green
Hours: Monday, and Wednesday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Closed Tuesday
Bet on these Bennys: Mimi's has Portuguese and Irish eggs Benedict. The Portuguese Benny is a grilled bolo levedo (think: a bigger, sweeter, English muffin), topped with two poached eggs, Portuguese hash and Hollandaise, served with home fries. The Irish Benny is two poached eggs on a toasted English muffin, with homemade or corned beef hash, and Hollandaise, served with home fries.
1901 County St.
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Friday, from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Closed Tuesday
Bet on these Bennys: These Bennys are stacked! Try the Benedictine Stacker, with shredded potatoes, topped with two scrambled eggs and chopped ham, and all topped with Hollandaise sauce.

785 Broadway
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Closed Monday
Bet on these Bennys: Other than the genuinely delightful experience of having breakfast inside a giant milk bottle, you can switch up that Benedict by trying the hash Benedict, which comes with home fries and coffee or tea. Don't forget to grab a muffin to go.
