Captain America/Pirates of the Caribbean Cosplay Chooses Perfect Shield

May 31, 2023May 31, 2023

Captain America is well-known for his disc-shaped weapon of choice, and in a new crossover cosplay, Jack Sparrow gets his very own hybrid shield!

Marvel's Captain America and Pirates of the Caribbean's Jack Sparrow couldn't be more different as characters, with a new cosplay mashing the two together and giving Jack a weapon that suits him perfectly: a rum barrel shield!

Posted on social media via Instagram, @themadsparrow specializes in dressing as Johnny Depp in a handful of his most iconic roles ranging from base-level Jack Sparrow, Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter, Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and even Tonto from The Lone Ranger, with @themadsparrow also finding the time to create spot-on looks for other fan-favorite fictional characters as well.

Dressing as G.I. Joe's elite ninja assassin, Snake Eyes, DC Comics’ Red Hood, and a zombie version of Cap, @themadsparrow continually impresses with cosplays that fans can appreciate, this Captain America x Captain Jack Sparrow cosplay redesign setting the bar even higher for @themadsparrow as a creator.

Both captains in their respective fields of expertise — Cap as a member of the military and Jack as the leader of a ship full of pirates— their weapons of choice consist of a shield made out of vibranium and a mean right hook, and an unreliable pistol and an old pirate sword, for Captain American and Jack, respectively. But now, thanks to @themadsparrow, Jack Sparrow getting a slot on the Avengers roster means he can bring his love for all things rum-related into the spotlight while simultaneously highlighting his penchant for being a reluctant hero!

A fan-created design seen across the post's five separate photos, it's made clear right away that @themadsparrow knew what they were doing when choosing these iconic characters for their crossover cosplay. Repurposing the top of one of his beloved liquor barrels as a Captain America-esque star-spangled shield, @themadsparrow finds a great balance between Jack's rugged pirate look — his sea-spritzed hair, bearded and eye-shadowed face, pirate accessories, and pirate boots all present and accounted for — and Captain America's more traditional superhero design — seen by the Cap-inspired shield and MCU-accurate body costume — effectively bringing to life an original cosplay that makes perfect sense for both heroes @themadsparrow has drawn inspiration from. But what might be the best part of this remixed look is that strapped underneath Captain Jack's barrel-cover shield is a fresh bottle of his favorite beverage: rum!

Unfortunately — and despite both franchises technically being owned by Disney — don't expect an official crossover between these two iconic characters anytime soon, unless, that is, the next Kingdom Hearts story finds a way to cross an MCU world with a Pirates of the Caribbean one. As it stands now, any hopes of seeing a Captain America x Jack Sparrow crossover — complete with rum shield — rests solely in the talented hands of @themadsparrow, so be sure to put a follow on their page for more cosplay goodness!
