Two Miami men arrested for stealing champagne bottles from Naples store
NAPLES, Fla. — Two men from Miami-Dade were arrested after their attempt to steal $1,000 worth of champagne from a Naples store went bottoms up.
According to the Naples Police Department (NPD), George Gonzalez (47) and Yasmay Gomez Amador (34) went to Wynn's Market on May 23.
Gonzalez was seen walking into the market and stuffing multiple champagne bottles into his pants. NPD said he then left the store without paying and met up with Gomez Amador, the getaway driver.
"Walked up and asked him if he could remove the wine since we know he's here to steal it and he refused," said Michael, a floor supervisor at Wynn's Market. "He knew there was a camera there but he would turn around away from the camera and it looked like he was putting them in his pants."
NPD alongside the Collier County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) were able to find the duo as they tried to get on I-75 at Pine Ridge Road.
"It's a shame that people would come into a family business that's been in operation for almost ninety years now and try to steal," said Michael.
Gonzalez was arrested for retail grand theft and Gomez Amador was arrested for retail theft in coordination with others.
